A two-day plan that starts at Hill Top Hideaway: a slow Willapa day close to town, then one coast day (north toward Tokeland and Westport or south to the Long Beach Peninsula). Each stop links to our detailed guide for hours, rules, and sources.

Before you go

  • Get a Discover Pass if you plan to park at state parks or trailheads.
  • Part of the Willapa Hills Trail is closed from Lebam to Heckard Road, October 19, 2026 to January 31, 2027, and other closures may apply. See our Willapa Hills Trail page and WA State Parks for current conditions.
  • Wet forecast? Swap in our rainy day plan.

Day 1: Raymond, South Bend, and the bay

  1. Morning: Walk about five minutes to the Willapa Hills Trail. When it’s open, State Parks describes about five paved miles toward South Bend (trail lodging notes). With kids under 15 or a senior 70+ in the group, add a stop at Cases Pond, where WDFW special rules limit fishing to youth under 15, seniors 70+, and designated harvester companion card holders.
  2. Midday: Spend time at the Northwest Carriage Museum and the riverfront from our Raymond guide.
  3. Afternoon: Drive to South Bend for the free county history museum and oysters.
  4. Optional: Visit the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge for birding, or try river fishing in season.
  5. Evening: Cook in at the house.

Day 2, option A: north to Tokeland and Westport

  1. Tokeland on Willapa Bay. In pot season, add crabbing from the public pier.
  2. Grayland Beach dune trails.
  3. Westport and Westport Light. On big-surf days, use our storm watching guide.

Day 2, option B: the Long Beach Peninsula

  1. Cape Disappointment, with Fort Columbia nearby.
  2. Ilwaco, then the Discovery Trail into Long Beach.
  3. Head north to Ocean Park, Oysterville, and Leadbetter Point.
  4. Visiting November through April? Read winter things to do in Long Beach. On a WDFW-announced dig day, add razor clams.
